Kids & Seniors Forest is a joyful, multi-generational project transforming a plain lawn into a thriving pocket forest. Inspired by Léon Woué, founder of the ‘Cercles des Naturalistes de Belgique’, this initiative reflects his lifelong mission to help people understand and cherish nature. Now in his eighties and living at Home Saint-Joseph in Couvin, Léon dreams of replacing his residence’s manicured lawn and rose beds with a vibrant forest full of biodiversity.
The pocket forest will quickly become a haven for birds, a source of shade, and a reason for residents to stroll outdoors. The planting day - with the local school, senior residents, and staff - will be a true community celebration, where children and elders can share stories and laughter. As the forest grows, it will cool the park, enrich local biodiversity, and weave lasting bonds between generations - turning an ordinary patch of grass into a living, breathing ecosystem that inspires connection, curiosity, and care for the natural world.

“All my life I’ve worked to protect and restore nature, founding the ‘Cercles des Naturalistes de Belgique.’ It’s hard to retire to a place where nature is reduced to a lawn and rose beds. I wish to create a pocket forest with native trees, with the help of the local school. Residents will have more reason to go outside, experience nature and to invite families to see the changes that it brings.”
