ERANDA Forest Pendle is connecting four schools in the immediate vicinity to the wild. The forest is planted on land that will be inherited by St John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School and is within a 5 min walk of Colne Primet Academy, Pendle Vale College and Pendle View Primary school.
The forest, in collaboration with ReWild Yourself, is designed to celebrate the changing of seasons, with the unobstructed beams of the rising and setting sun on the Summer and Winter solstice reaching the heart of the space.
A large gathering space has been placed in the centre of the forest, perfect for workshops and holding events. On the west side of the forest, a smaller more intimate space has been designed to hold conversations hugged by the forest on one side and the existing mound on the other. A sensory pathway has been created to lead the groups to this secretive space.

Forest Design
Designed to allow access into the space through a secure gate at the east. Inside the gate an assortment of Willow and Hazel trees will be planted to be coppiced in time to provide materials to be used in workshops. Allowing furniture and crafted objects to be created from the forest itself.

“We're really excited to have the pocket forest on the school site. It brings real life engagement for the students to get involved in conservation and forest activities. Our geography and science departments will make good use of this new addition to school life by providing their lessons on biodiversity and conservation in a way that would have been unavailable to them previously. All 850 of our current students will be able to experience this fantastic learning opportunity, and future students will see this develop over the years to come. SUGi have given us a real-life example of conservation, and it’s right on our doorstep.”
