Palma, Mallorca

Rewilding degraded and unused agricultural land into a thriving forest.

Pocket Forest
Miyawaki Method

The MiniSelva project is happening in Llucmajor, just outside Palma, the capital of Mallorca.

Mallorca island will be deeply affected by climate change and the best protection for many parts of the island is to recreate diverse protective forests around and inside mallorcan villages and cities.

MINISELVA will enable an educational project for neighboring landowners to learn how the Miyawaki Method is creating impressive and long term results concerning reforestation and land regeneration.

Forest Report: 21 Months

DATE: 23.10.2022

Survival Rate: 70%

Average of tallest 3 trees: 120 cm

This has been a challenging second year for the forest, though survival rate remains good. Due to the summer heatwave, watering the forest was a challenge, despite the irrigation system we put in. We were relying on trucks for water access and hence the forest was watered less regularly as we would have liked. This has certainly affected the forest though growth is steady, with species like rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) and wild olive (Olea sylvestris) all doing particularly well.
