We are planting a pocket forest in the Bellevue neighborhood of Ghent—an area with little greenery and high exposure to heat and noise. The site is currently just a lawn, surrounded by concrete and close to a busy highway.
Local residents and children will help plant and care for the forest until it becomes self-sustaining. The new forest will cool the area during hot summers, reduce noise, and create a green, peaceful space for play, relaxation, and community connection.
This project brings much-needed nature to a densely built neighborhood, improving quality of life and making the area more climate-resilient.

“The Bellevue building is located near the highway in a built up area. Kids have no access to nature and there are no trees in the neighborhood. When we presented the possibility of creating a pocket forest on their doorstep, local residents agreed that it will make a big difference and the majority voted for it. We want to change our urban landscape with more trees and bring connection to nature to everyone.”
