The Art of Rewilding
SUGi’s mission is to build biodiversity and restore native ecosystems in cities and schools around the world, using the proven ‘Miyawaki’ method.
By mimicking an ancient forest, we create ultra dense ‘layers’ of native species to restore the web of life in urban settings to maximises benefits for people and planet.
Louis Vuitton, Cadogan and SUGi collaborated for the first time in Autumn 2021 to introduce the first ‘pocket forest’ on Pont Street. This is a continuation of the journey to ‘rewild’ Chelsea, with the trees moving to a permanent home at an iconic site in Chelsea following the Show.

RHS 22 Forest Installation
This installation shows three successional growth stages of a Miyawaki forest – a complex planting methodology that creates dense ‘layers’ of native species, to maximize biodiversity on minimal space.
These forests grow to the density of a 100 year old forest in about 20 years, providing a self-sustaining home to hundreds of native species and an antidote to both monoculture planting and the stresses of modern life.

Serenity Forest
KENSINGTON & CHELSEA LONDON, UK
Serenity Forest is an ambitious two-phase project, to continue ‘rewilding’ the heart of London.
Phase 1 creates a native pocket forest at the entrance to RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Sited on the iconic roundabout just outside the Bullring Gate, the installation illustrates how minimal urban space can create maximal biodiversity, reintroduce indigenous species, and reconnect people with nature in our cities. The three growth stages of a ‘Miyawaki’ forest not only mimics the density of an ancient forest, but creates a crown-like structure in celebration of HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Phase 2 will transfer the installation to a permanent home at an iconic site in Chelsea. Serenity Forest will transform an unloved, concrete space into a thriving native forest, providing nourishment to flora and fauna, as well as to local residents.
Heritage Forest
KENSINGTON & CHELSEA LONDON, UK
Located in the heart of central London, Heritage Forest is reviving the UK’s endangered flora, nurturing pollinators vital for food production, and growing medicinal herbs known to bring balance back to body, mind, and spirit.
Together with local schools, we created this SUGi Pocket Forest to provide green space for local neighbours and a respite from urban life. Visitors can take in the changing colours of the trees, the aromas of the blossoms and the sound of rustling leaves.
Amidst the bustle of Pont Street in Chelsea, the forest is not only growing biodiversity, but cultivating community bonds and reminding us how interconnected we are with nature and with each other.
Building Community & Stewardship
As we restore the soil, air, and all other elements of a healthy biologically diverse ecosystem, we strengthen social bonds between communities and help each individual reconnect with nature in a tangible and enduring way.
