Khultabad
The community is coming together to create a green space for their town.
Khultabad is a historic town close to Auranagabad.
Due to recent changes and deforestation, the region is low on its green cover which has not only increased the average temperature of the town but also led to the absence of any community space.
The community, including elders of the village local government, school children and the women of Khultabad are coming together to create a green space for their town!

The Benefits
Planting trees at Khultabad will:
- Be a recreational space for the community
- Mitigate heat islands
- Preserve native species
- Help reverse the region from desertification
Some Background
Initially, the region was known as Rauza meaning ‘Garden of Paradise’.
Large scale deforestation and excessive use of groundwater has put Marathwada into an environmental crisis. Also, the existing tree cover is very sparse. The only solution to save the region from desertification is to plant and preserve more and more trees.
